Portugal is one of my favourite countries. People are friendly, food is delicious, prices are still relatively low compared to other European destinations. Weather in Portugal is beautiful, especially visiting in the summer, but autumn months can be generous too. I am going to share a plan for 2 weeks in Portugal and I hope this will help you organise your trip and roughly estimate how much it’s going to cost. In the future posts I will go more into detail of how long to spend at each place(to give you an idea before I publish the other posts Lagos – 6 days(including arrival), Sintra 3 days, Lisbon 5 days(including going back home), what to see and where to stay.
Lagos Portugal
First destination is Lagos Portugal. I flew from Leeds – Bradford airport and the cost of the ticket was roughly £90 per person including small 10kg luggage. Faro is a very popular destination so you should be able to find very good ticket times and prices as well. On this occasion we stayed in an apartment that was about 10 minute walk from the city centre and beaches. The cost for 5 nights was £271, which works out at £54 per night. After Lisbon in my opinion the most beautiful place in Portugal is Lagos. I can go there all the time and it never stops surprising me. Beaches are stunning, Lagos is ideal for people who enjoy walking like me. It’s a perfect place to visit not only for it’s beauty, but the location. All other lovely villages such as Sagres, Alvor, Silves, can be easily reached by train or bus. But first, let’s talk about how to get to Lagos from Faro.
Faro airport to Lagos
Lagos has its own bus station, connections to other cities in Portugal are very good. To be able to get to Sintra from Lagos, you will need to firstly book a coach to Lisbon and then catch a train to Sintra from there. Coach will take you to Oriente bus station in Lisbon and from there, a few meters away, you will find Oriente train station and reach your final destination. You can easily book the tickets in advance through the Flix Bus Website. I managed to find it for 7€.
Best way to get from Lisbon to Sintra
There are two bus and train stations in Lisbon. When you are traveling to Sintra from Lagos Portugal, the best one is Lisbon Oriente. If you are already in Lisbon, you can catch a train from the Rossio train station. Ticket price for train is 2.30€ and it costs same from both stations.
Sintra to Lisbon
Sintra has frequent trains to Lisbon, price is 2.30€, so same as from Lisbon. Times can be checked on google and they are very accurate. Time of journey is less than an hour.
Lisbon to Lisbon airport
You can reach the Lisbon airport by catching Uber or the Aerobus which comes approximately every 20 minutes from different points around the city and it costs about 4€ If there is more than one person traveling to the airport, it often works out cheaper to get the Uber. If you started your journey in Lisbon and you are going to fly back home from Lisbon, you can purchase return ticket for the Aerobus.
Lagos Old town
Lagos is a fairly small town, it has beautiful beaches offering wonderful views, but there are a few places worth seeing while in Lagos. The town walls of Lagos, the fish market, city park, the church of Sao Sebastiao is for sure at the top of the list of things to see.
Praia do Camilo Portugal
This must be my most favourite beach. I can spend hours there and I come back everyday of my visit in Lagos. It’s amazing to take drone shots. I would recommend visiting it very first thing in the morning, as it gets really busy later on in the day. To reach it you have to walk down many steps, so be prepared to climb them back once you are done.

Ponta da Piedade Lagos
Another beautiful place, on the map of Lagos and Portugal. It can be accessed by going down the steps, again I would recommend visiting very early in the morning, as it does get very busy and it is difficult to find a nice spot to admire the surroundings, never mind to take a photo.

Where to stay in Lagos Portugal
There is plenty of accommodations available in Lagos, beautiful hotels overlooking the beach, marina or the old town. Hotels offer different packages including meals or just the room. If you prefer to cook your own meals and have a bit more freedom an apartment is a good idea.
Hotel Marina Rio Lagos
This is the very first hotel I have visited when traveling to Lagos. It was mine and my husbands’ honeymoon and we both enjoyed it very much. Breakfast was included, there was plenty of choices and coffee was tasty. Staff was always very helpful and room was super clean. It’s located in the Marina, close to restaurants, old town and couple of food shops. Click below to see the photos and read reviews about the hotel.
Tivoli Lagos Portugal @tivolihotels
Hotel Tivoli in Lagos is situated in a very heart of Lagos. It is walking distance from Marina, Old Town, plenty of restaurants and all places you need to visit while visiting. It has a beautiful swimming pool outside and another one inside. They also offer a free shuttle service to the beach as well as beach towels. We bought a half board option and we were not disappointed. Breakfast and dinner had a lot of choice and offered different options every day.
