Food in Alicante is delicious. Every single place that I have visited had good selection and all dishes were tasty. I love tapas and if you do too, you will find Alicante a perfect place for it. I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed about the prices as I found it a lot more expensive than other spanish cities I have visited, for example Seville, but I guess with prices of everything going up, it makes sense. In total, in 4 days, I spent short of 170€ eating out, having breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks out. Is it a lot? Probably yes, but I haven’t really looked for a low cost places, but for places that serve good food, places that were recommended by locals. I did find one extra cheap tapas bar, but I will tell you more about below.
Best places to eat in Alicante
There is so many places to chose from, however if you only have a few days the choice can be tough! I shared all places that I have visited and I can honestly say that they are all worth visiting. What I love about Spain is that it’s so versatile. :))) You go for a coffee, but you can top it up with some rum and if you fill like it finish your dinner with a cocktail and chocolate cake for desert! I hope you will enjoy the food from places I have recommended!
Breakfast in Alicante
Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day. I always look forward to it while away. I love having a coffee on the terrace of the apartment or outside a cafe and wait for my hot breakfast and freshly squeezed juice!
Luceros Coffee – 📍 Avenida Alfonso El Sabio, 50 Alicante @luceroscoffee

This was the first place we have visited in Alicante. I originally wanted to eat French toast, however there was none available, so I changed to pancakes with fruit and Nutella. I also ordered a cappuccino and fresh orange juice, coffee was very smooth and delicate, orange juice sweet and refreshing. This place can be visited during brunch time as well. They have plenty of sitting downstairs, upstairs and few tables outside. Selection of cakes, fresh pastries, pancakes and drinks is wide and prices are comparable to UK. Very good find and I would definitely visit again if I was in Alicante.
Maldita Gloria – 📍Poeta Quintana 28 Alicante @malditagloriacafe

Located very central, cosy and lovely cafe. Coffee tasted great, orange juice was sweet and refreshing, egg was perfectly poached and price was reasonable. I paid approximately 10€ for coffee, fresh orange juice and toast with poached egg and salmon, it normally comes with avocado as well, but they ran out. Lady at the caffe also treated us with water with mint, some fruit and cucumber. I think that was a really nice gesture. Probably my most favourite breakfast place from this trip.

La Más Coketa – 📍 C. San Ildefonso, 16, 03001 Alicante, Spain @lamascoketaoficial

Probably the nicest looking out of all the breakfast places I have visited. Service is very nice, food and coffee tasty. Great place to visit. Breakfast price for orange juice, cappuccino and toast with salmon, approximately 11€.

Coconuts Beach Bar -📍 Avenida Del Puerto 8 Villajoyosa (Alicante) @coconut.s_beach_bar

Coconuts Beach Bar in Alicante is a cafe/bar situated in a little village Villajoyosa around 1h by tram from Alicante. It’s located on the strip where you can admire views of the beach, inhale fresh air and smell of the sea. Breakfast they serve there is very simple, I ordered toast with jam, cappuccino and orange juice. I wasn’t too keen on the orange juice, however the toast and coffee were really nice. I personally feel that it was a little bit over priced for what they were serving, but nevertheless if you are somewhere near it, it is a nice place to visit.
Best tapas in Alicante
I am going to start with a discovery of the trip! I think this place is amazing. It has an awesome atmosphere, people working there are very friendly, they made sure we have a chance to try every single tapas and most importantly, it’s cheap!!!
D’Tablas Alicante – 📍C. Rafael Altamira, 6, 03002 Alicante, Spain @dtablas_franquicias

The idea of the place is that waiter goes round with a large tray of tapas, you pick the one that you fancy (waiters are very helpful and always explain what’s what), each tapas is on a small plank of wood or in a small bowl, you keep stacking them until you are full or tried every single one…:) and pay the bill based on how many plans you have. Each one costs 1,20€! Small beer is 80cents! For 14 tapas and two drinks bill came to 20.80€! I found food tasty and there was a choice of fish, meet and cheese. A lot of it was fried. It’s a place that you must visit, the vibe was great. Be prepared to queue for a bit as it is a popular place, no surprise with such prices!

Xef Pirata – Tapas de Autora – 📍Único local en Casco Antiguo Altea @xefpirataaltea

This cute little tapas bar is located in a small town Altea. It takes about 2h from Alicante to get there, using two trams. The way me and my friend planned this trip, included food places wherever we were visiting on a particular day. Once I write the 4 days in Alicante post it will make more sense. Going back to Xef Pirata, it is a charming place that offers tapas, which is different to the traditional style. I have to admit I enjoyed eating there and I would for sure recommend visiting while in Altea. Service is very quick and people working there very polite. The bill came to 40€ for two drinks and four tapas.

Saona – 📍Av. Alfonso El Sabio, 9, 03002 Alicante, Spain @gruposaona

Saona offers a range of tapas as well as menu of the day. From Sunday to Wednesday menu of the day costs 12.99€ and Thursday to Saturday 16.99€. We managed to get the cheaper price as we went on Sunday. Tapas is also very reasonably priced, however menu of the day offers starter, main course and dessert. Drinks are not included. I loved the decor of this restaurant, it was very modern but also very warm and cosy. Food tasted great and every single dish was perfect. Service was great and food was served fairly quick as well.

Best paella in Alicante
Alicante is a province in Valencia, Valencia is a capital of paella, so expectations were high. I visited Alicante with my friend who is originally from Spain, so I knew if we find a good place, it will be a truly good place! We tried googling and researching blogs to find the best place, but in the end we went with recommendation of the lady from our hotel(locals know best!). The winner is Restaurante La Brújula – Marina Deportiva Puerto de Alicante, Mlle. Levante, 6, 03001 Alicante, Spain Located in the Marina, restaurant offers w wide range of paellas such as sea food, meat and veg. We picked the one with chicken and it costs 16€ per person. Minimum two people requiered to place the order. Friend who I travelled with said this was the best paella she had from a restaurant. I guess it says it all. Let me know if you visited and what you think!
