*Edit: Dear Reader! I would love to know if you have visited any of the places I have recommended and if you liked it. Please leave me a comment or send a message on instagram. Your opinion matters to me and I would love to know what you think!
Food for me is the most important aspect of travel. I associate many places with certain tastes and smells. Portugal for me is a smell of freshly grilled fish and taste of great coffee. When in Algarve you will be able to find a wide range of restaurants, from super expensive to a very cheap choices. I have tried to select the ones a bit more on a cheaper side, however it all also depends on the dishes you decide to order, as seafood can get expensive. During my stays in Lagos I have never been disappointed with the food I was served, everything is always fresh and tastes like it was cooked at home. I have visited all the below places and can recommend them based on my own experience. What I have noticed this year is that majority of the restaurants and cafes want payments in cash, so if you are used to using your card, before you come make sure you withdraw some money from the cash machine. Another tip as well, when ordering fish and seafood please check if the price is per 100g or per dish, as it can get pricy of it is 100g. Other than that generally whatever price is on the menu, this is what you will be charged. I have included links to google maps, if you click on the name of the food place it will automatically take you to google maps app.
Best cafes in Lagos Portugal
If you traveled in Europe, you know that there is always loads of cafes to chose from and it is the best thing ever to sit outside, have freshly made coffee and just enjoy everything that’s around you. What I have noticed is that many places, especially the closer to the tourists spots can charge you stupid prices. For some reason cappuccino is always more expensive than any other coffee. I have selected a couple of places that I always enjoy going to and except one of them, they are all “snack bars”. I can guarantee that the food you will eat there will be always fresh and tasty. You will notice that these places are also busy with the locals(nobody gonna go to their local cafe if they are not serving fresh food or overcharging). I hope you will enjoy it.
Fifteenbrunch

This is my new discovery. This lovely cafe has been opened for just over a year and offers a range of delicious breakfast and brunch options. Juices are tasty and freshly made with juice of the week selection. Coffee is delicious and prices are super reasonable. They also serve alcohol if you fancy a beer, cocktail or a glass of wine. This place has sitting area outside and inside. If you chose to sit outside, please make sure you pop in inside because it looks stunning. Staff is very friendly, chatty and helpful if you are not sure what to order. I can definitely recommend it. It is located a little bit out of the town centre, but seriously it is worth it. If you are in this area, you can go and play mini gold just after your meal! I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Abigail’s cafe Lagos
Abigail’s is a vegetarian restaurant and cafe in Lagos, where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, brunch, coffee and a selection of juices and smoothies. It’s a really cosy place located in the centre of Lagos. I really enjoyed my toast with avocado and a smoothie. Ingredients are locally sourced and meals are prepared with passion.

Cafeteria Baluarte

Another reasonably priced snack bar, great for breakfast and lunch. They serve wide range of toasts, sandwiches, hot and cold drinks as well as soup of the day. I loved the croissant with almond cream, it was delicious and if you like almonds and croissants, you will love it too. 🙂

Cantinho do Petisco Lagos

My most favourite snack bar of all. It is on the way to and from Praia Do Camilo, very convenient for lunch or dinner. The menu has a wide choice and my favourite dishes are tempura prawns and goats cheese with red onion marmalade. This is definitely a hidden gem in Lagos. Food presentation is lovely, coffee is delicious as well as the house wine. Prices are also very reasonable and service is friendly. I recommend you visit this snack bar during your stay in Lagos.

Paraki cafe Lagos
Very convenient and close to city centre, for bottle of beer, coffee and plain croissant we have paid 3.80€. This was so far the cheapest snack bar I came across in Lagos.

Restaurante O Farnel
Great place to visit if you are traveling by bus(not only) as it’s located just behind the bus station in the centre of Lagos. It is open very early in the morning and offers a wide range of food and drinks. Every day you will see a board with 4 dishes of the day that cost 8.50€. It is often occupied by locals and sometimes it’s hard to get a table outside, which normally would suggest that it is a popular place and food and drinks must be good.
Best burgers in Lagos Portugal
Nah Nah Bah Lagos
This was a great discovery! NaH Nah Bah has an amazing atmosphere and most importantly amazing burgers. I actually found this burger place via The Guardian website which says “Travel website Matador Network lists Nah Nah Bah as one of its 50 “most amazing burger joints in the world”. And honestly, it’s true. It is not the cheapest place to eat, the burger that I have ordered, which was Blue Ball Buster costs about 15.99€ but it’s worth every penny. It was the first time when I tried the combination of blue cheese and beef, which by the way is “100% organic grass-fed Angus beef ground daily and hand pressed”, and I loved it ever since. If you love burgers like me, you must visit Nah Nah Bah. This branch is located in the centre of Lagos, they also have one in Praia da Luz.

Qwazi Burgers
Another great place if you are a burger lover, they have a range of beef, chicken and vegetarian burgers as well as good choice of starters, beers, cocktails and wines. Not a bad place in terms of prices, for two burgers, a pint of beer and Aperol we paid 32.50€. It is a little bit out of the way from the city centre, but in my opinion definitely worth a visit. If you are on your way back from one of the beaches such as Dona Ana or Praia do Camilo, this is a great stop for lunch or dinner. Quazi Burgers opening times are Monday – Saturday 12 – 14:30 and 18:30-22. Closed on Sunday.

Best restaurants in Lagos Portugal
The Garden Lagos

Slightly hidden delicious restaurant with BBQ dishes. A great option for dinner accompanied by great vibe that The Garden in Lagos has. I finally managed to eat there and I was really pleased(it was my birthday as well…). The food was tasty, prices reasonable and staff very, very friendly. If you would like to visit, please make sure you make a reservation because it is a VERY popular place and if you don’t book a table, the waiting time can be long or you will be turned away. It is not huge, so the amount of tables is also limited. They have a selection of BBQ dishes and good list of cocktails as well!:)

Casa Do Zé
Located in the old town, offers a wide range of seafood, meat and some vegetarian options. Medium high prices for everything. Remember, that when you get offered bread, olives and butter, they will add it to your bill at the end, it’s not free. A bit more expensive than other places, but food is really tasty. It’s not a place that I would normally visit, only because it is located on the main road, however after reading a few reviews I decided to give it a go and it was a good decision. I hope you will enjoy it too.

Churrasqueira Praça d’Armas
Piri piri chicken, close to city centre. They offer a meal deal for €8, half chicken, chips and drink(I think that you can pick a small beer too). There is a selection of other meals too, and prices are very reasonable, always busy with local people. You can eat in. Nice place for a quick meal, when you don’t fancy spending a lot of money, want to eat well and quick.
