Athens airport to city center
There is always a couple of options, depending on your budget and how big your group is. You can catch bus number x95 from Athens airport that will take you straight to the city centre and it costs 5.50 euros per person. Private shuttle works out as £40pp and a taxi 33-37 euros. If you are traveling with a bigger group, check the Uber prices. 🙂
Where to stay in Athens
Options are limitless. Athens is a beautiful city to walk around and to enjoy the surroundings, therefore wherever you will stay it will be amazing. I picked area called Athina. It was quiet and very close to tourist attractions, city centre and Lidl. :)) I usually use BOOKING.COM to find the best deals. I had my account with them for years, the more you book, the more discounts you get. It is also a reputable company, so you know that if anything goes wrong, they will help you. As always, I advice to book your accommodation via credit card. In my opinion anything up to £50 per night is reasonable. From my experience, properties with rating above 8 are the best. I left you the map and search bar to have a look, I hope you will find something for yourself.
Booking.comWhat to do in Athens
Athens is the largest city in Greece and the capital, as you can imagine there is plenty to see. I always wanted to visit city of Gods. Number one stop for me is the Acropolis. It’s very difficult to describe how beautiful it is and unless you see it yourself you will not be able to appreciate its size and beauty. Temple of Zeus, Ancient Agora of Athens, Panathenaic Stadium, Temple of Hephaestus, Plaka, National Garden, Monastiraki (flea marker) are all on the list of must see places. Depending on how many days you have in Athens, try to fit in as many as possible. I would recommend making a list of places that you would like to see, then you will be able to purchase a ticket for multiple attractions and it works out a lot cheaper. Acropolis entrance itself is around 20euros.
Food in Athens
Greek cuisine is for sure in my top 3 favourite foods. Without a doubt, every single place that I had a chance to eat at, served delicious food, however I had two that in my opinion were the best. 1. Ambrosia – Souvlaki Drakou 3, Athina 117 42, Greece and Vyrinis Greek -TavernArchimidous 11, Athina 116 35, Greece. Both serving traditional Greek food, both very reasonable, for two people including starters, mains, drinks and coffee, we paid no more than 25euros.

Athens trip cost
The cost of traveling to big cities in Europe doesn’t have to be expensive. If you plan everything well and spend enough time researching the place you want to visit, you can find some good offers and spend your money wisely. The total cost of our trip to Athens was approximately £900, this includes the flights(they were pretty expensive – £180, but you can get them cheaper than this- make sure you bookmark SKYSKANNER to find the best flight offers), accommodation ( apartment £200), bus from the airport and back – €22 entrances to the all tourist attractions, (I think it was about €88), luggage storage €8, food and drinks. We mainly had breakfasts in our apartment, lunch out and evening meal in the apartment. The food and drinks part is of course down to everyone’s preference so you don’t have to spend as much or maybe you will spend more than this. So all this works out as approximately £450 pp for a week in Athens(6 nights). If you would like to get it cheaper, I am sure that you can find a cheaper accommodation and save money on the combine tickets for entrances like I mentioned in a previous post. I hope this will give you a better idea of how much it costs to visit Athens. Do you think it’s a decent price.
